Clinical Practice Improvement Activities (CPIA)

CMS has created 8 activity categories in CPIA with more than 90 different activities. It is not necessary to have activities in each category. Providers need a total of 40 points to receive full credit for CPIA, which comprises at least 15% of the MIPS score. However, CPIA is likely to comprise at least 25% of a podiatrist’s MIPS score since the method of resource use calculation may not apply to wound care providers. Seven of the eight categories have both high (20 point) and medium weighted (10 point) activities.

The USWR has already developed Wound Care Specific CPIA activities which can be reported through the US Wound Registry. These activities were created based on the new evidence-based, clinical-practice guidelines for diabetic foot management jointly sponsored by the Society for Vascular Surgery and the American Podiatric Medical Association [1]. The document covers 5 areas: diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) prevention, offloading, osteomyelitis diagnosis, wound care, and peripheral arterial disease.  REVIEW CPIA PROJECTS
